May is Leave a Legacy Month.

What will your legacy be?

May is “Leave a Legacy” Month in Canada, and it’s never too early to start thinking about the kind of lasting legacy we want to leave behind someday. Thoughtful planning can ensure that the causes that mean most to us will be taken care of after we’re gone.

There are many ways to make a meaningful gift to Rise as part of your estate plan.

Leave a bequest for Rise in your will.

Donating to a charity through your will is easy and has many benefits. You can continue to enjoy the use of your assets while you’re alive, and know that one day your executors will help you continue to support the causes you cared about in your lifetime. There may also be tax benefits for your estate. Contact your lawyer or notary to update your will to include a bequest for Rise, and continue to support our vital work into the future.

Name Rise as a beneficiary of retirement savings plans.

All you need to do is obtain a change of beneficiary form from the plan administrator or your financial advisor and name Rise Women’s Legal Centre Society as beneficiary of all or a percentage of your Registered Retirement Savings Plan, Registered Retirement Income Fund or Tax Free Savings Account and support Rise while your Estate enjoys the tax benefits.

Consider a gift of Life Insurance.

Contact your life insurance provider and name Rise Women’s Legal Centre Society as beneficiary of an existing or new life insurance policy. Your estate will receive a donation receipt for the value of the policy proceeds paid to Rise upon your death. If you designate Rise as the irrevocable beneficiary or owner-and-beneficiary of your life insurance policy, we will be able to provide you with an official receipt for income tax purposes for the amount of the premium you pay each year.

Here is the information you’ll need in order to make Rise part of your legacy:
