Why give?

Rise services are in response to the systemic marginalization of women and gender diverse people, who need legal help and are unable to access it, for financial, geographic, or other reasons.

Without Rise, women and gender diverse people in BC who can’t afford a private lawyer and who are not eligible for provincial Legal Aid are faced with the choice of trying to navigate the legal system by themselves.

When women cannot access legal services they may remain in violent relationships, lose parenting rights to their children, or forgo important economic entitlements like child support, spousal support and property division.

The lack of access to family law services, and its disproportionate impact on women and gender diverse people, is a gender equality issue in the province.
